Rottfest 666

Belfast's first ever open air metal festival - and first ever proper metal festival full stop - will be held at Barrow Square, Clarendon Dock on the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year of the new millennium - yep, it's Rottfest 666!

Headlining are Devildriver with four local acts already announced and two more international acts ready to be announced soon...

This will be a festival that will be hella enjoyable for all metalheads, but more importantly, if is well supported it could be the first of many!

So take the day off work/school/dole, and get ready for some metal joy - it may not be as big as Download, but it's a start (and what a way to prepare for Gunners, Crue and 'Tallica!)

Tickets are to go on sale in April.

The local bands announced so far are:
  • Bad Boat
  • Stand Up Guy
  • Honey for Christ
  • Residual Effect

Mmm, debate ranges, have to say that I might be on Pastor's side this time, as much as we all enjoy tribute bands, the bands they are paying tribute to all had to start out somewhere, whether it's on a small pub stage or down the line-up in a festival.

And, I think we should all back the efforts of a local promoter to set up Belfast's first ever festival \ii/

However, a festival of tribute bands - now that could be a real laff - Metallitia to headline, Guns and whatever next, Deft Leppard, and on the second stage, Tinn Lizzy (of whichever of the three ones are best) with Bon Jovi Experience as well - two stages, too much tribute...

Let's face it.....difference is, yeah, all the great bands had to start somewhere, but most if not all were great to start with....maybe when you've actually seen most of these tribute bands then you can comment....i have actually heard several of these bands on the festival line up....guess what, i think they are shite!!!...So i'll continue to pay my £8.50 to hear great live tribute bands at the empire and you can waste yer money watchin' and listening to ......stuff like you're gonna hear at this festival......if you're allowed out !!!!!

Firstly, tribute bands feck off!!!!!I think the promoter of this festival should 'fuck (not feck) off!!!!!!!Where are Glyder(maybe youve never heard of them)they are a fantastic band, but then it all depends wot type of music you like listening to....By the sounds of things after wot i've read its growling and tuneless songs........watch you dont get killed in the crush at this festival...LOL

As for you J i know for a fact you havent seen Deft Leppard,or the Bon Jovi Exp,so until you have i suggest you dont comment......I think i'll get steve and phil to go along and take their guitars coz theyd be every bit as good in fact probably better than the shite at the festival.....

Fair points all said and done - though original acts don't always charge a fortune (Dragonforce for example) and I happen to have it on good authority that the Rottfest 666 ticket will be very reasnably priced.

Have heard of Glyder and you'd be surprised at the diverse nature of music I'll listen to (whitesnake, Weezer, Trivium, Nine Inch Nails, Zep, Coheed and Cambria, Avenged Sevenfold and Rush tracks all on tonight's playlist...)

Still think that it's all about balance - li'l bit of new, l'il bit of old all mixed up in the honeypot and brewed with a wee splash of something heady :)
